Is Freelancing a Good Career in Pakistan?

Sitting at home in your pyjamas and working the way you like without following office decorum is the dream! And get paid for it! Omg! Working whenever you want and wasting time as you wish. There’s a lot to like about the all new, unconventional field of freelancing.
With the job market being very saturated in Pakistan, youngsters are looking to join big firms and companies like KPMG, Deloitte, Mobilink and Nestle etc. But there are a lot of people who like to work independently and do not want a boring desk job. A 9 to 5 office job in Pakistan demands you to be a corporate slave following office decorum, meeting deadlines, conference calls and meetings. Waking up early and sleeping late, stressing a person completely are the main features of an office job. Then there’s the BOSS, always bossing around and ordering the employees. People in Pakistan do not like being bossed around that much, but joining the corporate world demands to follow orders. And who likes orders? Yup, that’s right.
Freelancing allows you to be your own boss. People who are disciplined and are good at handling themselves have chosen this field. Elance, one of the leading freelancing sites, revealed that Pakistan ranks third in the total registered members. The first two are US and India. Another website, freelance.com also has a high number of registered members from Pakistan. The top categories of Pakistan in freelancing are in IT and Design. In monetary terms, Pakistan is earning about $0.5 billion entirely from freelancing and is ranked the 4th most popular country for freelancing. This shows Pakistani freelancers have so much to earn from freelancing.

People in Pakistan want their children to join the same field they themselves are in e.g. a doctor wants his child to become a doctor, business-oriented families want their children to become a part of their business. They either want you to become a corporate slave or join their business. They even disapprove of becoming a freelancer but there are a lot of people who prefer to choose freelancing as a career. When the workload increases, it can be even outsourced by hiring more freelancers. Many people have started their business through freelancing and some are planning to do so.
As the US and Europe time zones do not match, freelancers mostly have to work night shifts which is difficult for some people but it pays good so all that lack of sleep is somewhat worth the pay, obviously not good for the health though. For women in Pakistan who are not allowed to work, freelancing is a great opportunity to earn for themselves while sitting at home. This makes them independent so they spend the money on themselves or their family. There are some threats to women working outside and freelancing saves them from all the threats as they just have to sit at home and work as much as they can.
Also, freelancing is the bestest way for students to earn some extra pocket money as it is easy on the hours so they don’t have to worry about clocking in for work or meeting odd hours for deadlines while maintaining classes and homework. Students can easily find gigs online and make cash to pay off their student loans or just party it out! Who doesn’t love an extra money flow? So to sum it all up, freelancing sure is making its way to Pakistan and has already caught up with the trend which makes it a success as a career here in Pakistan. Sure, its unstable but hey at least you’re your own boss!
